Emirates Spinnaker Tower Celebrates English Tourism Week

English Tourism Week is back for 2019! The week is an annual celebration showcasing the quality and diversity of tourism in England.

As one of the leading tourist destinations in Portsmouth, we know how important the tourism industry is to the City. Whether you’re a visitor, resident, business owner or employee, the value cannot be underestimated.

Latest figures show that within 12 months, Portsmouth welcomed around 9.3 million visitors and as an employment sector accounts for nearly 13% of all jobs in the city!

To highlight the importance of tourism to Portsmouth’s economy, Stephen Morgan MP visited Emirates Spinnaker Tower to meet with staff.

Stephen Morgan, MP for Portsmouth South said:

“We know that tourism is significant for Portsmouth because of all the high-quality attractions the city boasts. From the Mary Rose Museum to Spinnaker Tower, our city is on the map as a national leader when it comes to the tourism industry. We are all aware that our seaside destination draws people from our own shores and internationally.

Tourism plays an integral role in the economy of our great city and I am pleased to be part of English Tourism Week’s excellent campaign to promote and showcase the first-rate attractions that we have.”

Tony Sammut, General Manager of Emirates Spinnaker Tower said:

“It’s been our pleasure to welcome Stephen to the Tower to showcase the variety of tourist experiences we have available. The Spinnaker Tower is the best place to begin a day trip or short trip to Portsmouth, giving visitors a bird’s eye view of the City and its wealth of attraction, culture and tourist experiences. 2019 is set to be a fantastic year for tourism in Portsmouth with the D Day 75 commemorations taking place here in June.”

English Tourism Week 2019 runs from 30th March – 7th April 2019. It is run in association with Visit England. More information can be found at www.visitbritain.org/english-tourism-week. Follow the hashtag #EnglishTourismWeek19 to see what events are happening.
