My Favourite View: Lulu from Love Southsea

Lulu Whitmore is the founder of Love Southsea, the popular market held the first weekend of every month in Palmerston Road. As well as the market, Love Southsea is a big fan of nurturing local businesses and has created a Love Southsea independent clothing and artwork range locally. Check out which part of Spinnaker Tower’s view Lulu likes the most and what she thinks about the Tower’s role in the city.

1. Tell me more about what Love Southsea does

Love Southsea is a market in a nutshell. It was created for Portsmouth locals to encourage them to shop locally to support home-grown businesses.

2. Why did you start Love Southsea? What was the inspiration?

I wanted to promote Portsmouth and change the image of how the city is perceived by non-residents. The community and loyalty to the city is so strong. If I can inspire those in the city to love it, the love will spread out from within. The Love Southsea site began it all and the market followed on from it.

3. How long have you lived in Portsmouth? What’s the best thing about living here?

I’ve lived here all my life. One of the best things is the sea and the ability to go to the beach whenever you like. But overall, the people are what make Portsmouth. The community spirit here is so strong and I’m so happy to be a part of it.

4. Describe your ideal weekend in Portsmouth

The Love Southsea market days make up my perfect weekend – held on the first Saturday and Sunday of each month, it feels like a carnival day and even if the weather is a bit challenging, we still have fun!

Apart from that, I’d recommend a trip to the No.6 cinema which I really love; it’s really romantic so a perfect date destination. It’s a cool building too and ultra-modern, which set against the more Historic Dockyard is really interesting.

You don’t need to leave the city because there’s so much to do here!
