English Tourism Week Highlights Value of Tourism to Portsmouth

This week sees the return of English Tourism Week, a national celebration of activity showcasing the quality and vibrancy of the English tourism industry. To highlight the importance of tourism to Portsmouth’s economy, Stephen Morgan MP visited Spinnaker Tower to meet with the staff at one of the city’s leading attractions.

Stephen Morgan, MP for Portsmouth South said:

‘It is a pleasure to be here today to highlight the valuable role that tourism plays in our city. The visitor economy generates around £600 million for Portsmouth annually and supports thousands of jobs. From up here at the top of the Tower we have a view out over the many attractions, museums, heritage properties, beautiful beaches and landmarks that make our city such a popular destination for visitors. English Tourism Week is the perfect opportunity to celebrate them.’

Tony Sammut, General Manager of Spinnaker Tower said:

‘We continue to see terrific numbers of tourists from across the UK and abroad visiting the Tower. We are proud to work alongside other Portsmouth attractions to offer a first class visitor experience for anyone coming to our great city. ’

English Tourism Week runs from 17 to 25 March 2018. It is coordinated by Visit England. More information can be found at www.visitbritain.org/english-tourism-week.
