The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee weekend is just around the corner. Here is why Spinnaker Tower is the perfect place to celebrate!

What is the Platinum Jubilee?

The historic milestone celebrates the Queen’s 70 year reign. She is the first British monarch to celebrate this.

Royal Jubilees are an occasion to celebrate the life and reign of a monarch. It was during the long reign of George III that the tradition of celebrating the Sovereign’s jubilee years started to become popular. Before she was surpassed by the current Queen, the longest-reigning British monarch was Queen Victoria. Queen Victoria celebrated the Golden jubilee (50 years) and the Diamond jubilee (60 years).

For the last three centuries, commemorative souvenirs for Royal events have been popular. Commemorative items for Royal celebrations started in 1660 for the Restoration of Charles II. Popular items include stamps, coins and ceramics.
