Yellow is most definitely the new black next Friday (March 3) when hundreds of yellow themed events take place around the country to mark Big Yellow Friday, the national awareness and fundraising day for Children’s Liver Disease Foundation (CLDF).
From cake sales to quizzes, knitting parties to bingo nights or simply wearing yellow for the day, thousands of people will be joining in the fun to fight childhood liver disease, for which there is still no cure. Regional landmarks turning yellow for the night include the Ashton Memorial at Lancaster, the Emirates Spinnaker Tower at Portsmouth Harbour and Blackpool Tower!
Amongst those lending their support to the cause is Sooty. The famous glove puppet, who has been a favourite with children for generations, is using social media to raise awareness of Big Yellow Friday and CLDF.
Every penny raised on Big Yellow Friday is much needed, as CLDF Chief Executive, Alison Taylor explains:
“Every day in the UK, two children are diagnosed with a childhood liver disease. It’s a shattering diagnosis for any family as it means a lifetime of care. We provide those families with information and emotional support; we also fund vital research and act as a voice for all those affected. But we rely entirely on voluntary donations, which is why Big Yellow Friday is such an important day for us.
“We are delighted to have Sooty on board for what will be our tenth Big Yellow Friday and, with a target of £90,000, we are hoping he will encourage as any people as possible to ‘Izzy Wizzy let’s get busy’ and join in the fun! Whether you plan a big yellow party or just bake some yellow cakes, your contribution will make a real difference to families affected by liver disease throughout the UK.”
